An announcement

Look out world!

This blogs awesomeness is about to get multiplied by 2.
what the what?

I know. I can't contain myself either.

My sister and I who have been kickin' it together since the 80s are about to take on the blogosphere together, right here on these very pages, digital pages?

I, Kaitlin, (the little one in fabulous stripes and the drivers seat of the laundry basket below) am bringing my joy and love for design/doodles/crafts/all.things.awesome and combining them with the amazing craft+diy superpowers of my older sister, Kelsey, (my laundry basket passenger and blonde haired creative genius).

So, over the next few days expect some changes (including a name change), and for your visits to this bloggy to be twice as awesome as before.

oh hey there!

skkkrrrrrrrrrrt! Stop the laundry basket.

Oh no you didn gurl

beachy keen

Where are you winter? Its been so unseasonably delightful around these parts lately I don't know what to do with myself.
I can play outside? But it's January?

It's confusing me - and also confusing some of the plants in my yard that have already started blooming.
Bewildered and all, I still love the respite from the bitter cold.

We decided to take and impromptu road trip yesterday to the shore line and dig our toes in the sand.
There were dozens upon dozens of clams in the tide pools we also tried to dig up, but all successfully evaded our capture, and thus our stomachs. I never thought catching a clam would be so hard, but they are fast little things.

.....until next time clams

Since we couldn't fetch our own dinner, we decided to stop at a little seafood joint, where we literally watched the boats pull in with their latest catch. mmmm mmmm.

DIY Oh My!

Sometimes you see an awesome DIY project and you think to yourself "ah, piece o' cake, I'll be able to finish that before lunch and then have time to nap later"

This was exactly what I thought would happen when JR and I decided to make our own coffee table together.

ha, ha, ha
good one

In my humble opinion, DIY projects never seem to work out they way you planned. Sometimes they turn out better, maybe you ended up getting materials on sale, and sometimes (as in our case) you learn things the hard way. We failed to follow the sage advice of measure twice cut once, but besides that... I am absolutely thrilled with how its coming together.

As you can see by the pictures JR is the handy one in this group - he also looks quite stunning in plaid if I do say so myself.

We aren't quite done yet, but I will be sure to put some pics up when we are!

What about you, ever have any DIY projects that didn't quite go as planned?

Mini bathroom makeover

Renting instead of owning has its perks.

For one thing I get to sip on lemonade and watch as someone else mows my huge lawn. I also never have to worry about fixing anything when it breaks.

The downside is that I've got to work with what's already there when it comes to decorating - like the awesome 90s wicker mirror in my bathroom or the terrible paint job in almost every room.

Despite the limitations I am still trying to bring a little sunshine and my own pizazz when and where I can.

And on that note I give you the mini bathroom makeover of 2012!

BEFORE - my sink and awesome 90s wicker mirror (nope, can't change that guy sadly)

BEFORE - my plain jane shower curtain

AFTER (ta da!)

AFTER - coordinating striped dishes for the sink counter

AFTER - My snazzy new striped shower curtain from west elm

I am going to re-purpose the old white shower curtain (which is in marvelous shape) by giving it a good cleaning and then sewing it into curtains for another window.

film photography

One of my greatest loves is film photography
Don't get me wrong, digital is on its own awesome level, but to me film and digital are still worlds apart.

I guess I can be compared to one of those people who will never quite get over the feeling of an e-reader as compared to the feel of the worn pages of a good old fashioned book nestled in my hands as I read on the couch.

In the same way, I love the feeling and look of a developed photo, not a printed one, or one on a computer screen - its just not the same.

Another one of my favorite things about our old family film photos is when I am looking through bins and bins of old photos that are shadowy and over exposed, magically I will come across one that is absolutely magnificent - as if everything came together right at that instant to make a perfect picture.

Whoever took the photo probably had little idea of just how amazing it would look to my eyes twenty years down the road.

Here are a few of my favorite family film photos, digitized for your blog viewing pleasure.

Lately things have been a little rough around these parts. Forward motion is harder than it sounds (relient k, anyone?). I have spent most of this week in thought and prayer taking long walks at lunch and enjoying the simple pleasures of my small town. I have certainly had all of you sweet friends in mind though. I hope you have a marvelous weekend and the luckiest of Friday the 13ths.

Inspiration for your Tuesday

How are your 2012 resolutions coming everyone?
Isn't it exhilarating to know you can always make a new ending to your story by the choices you make today.
Fancy how that works, isn't it?

For 2012 I am focused to staying motivated, seeing the big picture and by golly

I think one of the biggest things I have come to realize over the past couple of crazy years and months is that as Americans we are some of the wealthiest/most educated/privileged people in the WHOLE WORLD. I say this not to be braggy in any way, but to point out that we have been given so very much. I am a firm believer in the saying that 'To whom much is given, much is expected'.

So what?
I know I can't save the planet, or solve global crisis on my lunch break.

But what can I do? What can you do?

Answer: Use that awesome glob of matter in your head known as your brain and make active and positive decisions EVERY DAY.

make someone smile
encourage others
spread God's love
take care of your body, its an amazing gift
learn a new skill
dream something and achieve it
motivate others
get off your patushka and enjoy the great outdoors
make a sacrifice of time/money for someone else
find something you are passionate about and pursue the heck out of it
don't let things happen to you, MAKE THINGS HAPPEN

I love finding people that motivate me and inspire me with what they have been through, where they have come, and everything they have achieved. Here are a few grand folks who inspire my core, and get me jumping out of bed in the morning with the thought of how awesome it would be to do something like them.

Arcade Fire: Musicians (some of my fave) who were asked to license their song in a super bowl ad and donated ALL of it to Partners in Health, which brings medical aid to impoverished countries. They have donated millions (yes millions) to rebuilding Haiti and creating a sustainable opportunities for Haitians.

Karol Wojtyla: Was born in Poland and lost both of his parents, and all of his siblings by the time he was 20.  He was removed from university because of the start of WWII and was forced to study in seminary in secret. He went on to become Blessed Pope John Paul II.

Blake Mycoskie: The founder of TOMS shoes who helps children around the world avoid infection, and disease by offering them a simple pair of shoes. I have more pairs of shoes than I will ever need and I have taken that for granted everyday of my life.

so I encourage all of you to GO. GETUP. GET OUT. and DO SOMETHING
"Let no one ever com to you without leaving better and happier" - Mother Teresa

Who is someone that inspires you?
What is something that you are really passionate about?

I only ask that if you use one of the buttons you be so kind as to follow my blog.

PLEASE PLEASE See the notes at the end for installing the buttons. You MUST change the link to your twitter/pinterest/bloglovin account for these to work.

Feel free to email me at kait [dot] rawley [at] gmail [dot] com if you need help :)

Follow bee-loved on bloglovin

You MUST MUST MUST change the link in the code to reflect your own account or the link will not work.

I have made it easy to spot where you need to make the change by typing YOURUSERNAMEHERE

so for example to make my buttons work, I would replace

Get it?

It is also completely ok to just copy and paste the address from a browser and replace the whole thing if need be. It might actually be easier to do it that way for some people.

Then you just go into your layout and paste the code into your sidenbar. Easy peasy :)

Depending on how your layout is set up, the buttons may not display as well for everyone.
Again, if you have any questions, or need help email me :)

Here are 11 fun things about me!

  • Colorado, it's about 1600 miles from where I live in FL. I have never been out of the country but hopefully someday I'll get to!

I'm opening this up to anyone who feels so inclined to do this on their blog (someone pretty please).

I had a fun time making the questions and I would love to hear some awesome answers from you guys!

doodle and a cup of joe

Oh Hello there :)
I've been cozying up next to my little space heater trying to stay warm these last few chilly nights. Drinking lots of tea, coffee, and hot cocoa and dreaming that my space heater was really a roaring fire.

I've also been wearing big chunky knit scarves almost 24/7.
They are so wonderful in the cold, but its not so wonderful and kind of awkward when other people have to point out the crumbs you've been carrying around on your scarf for a couple of hours since lunch.

Totally not eating anything crumbly for lunch tomorrow/and/or taking off my scarf before I eat.

In the mean time I was inspired to make this cheery doodle for your enjoyment.

oh, p.s.!
Are you a book worm? My friend is an author (A REAL LIVE AUTHOR, crazy, I know) and she is hosting a month long GIVEAWAY for a different book every day! The books are of all varieties and all sorts of different genres. How neat is that? So, book worms unite, and go here to win yourself some free books!

Another good friend of mine is also hosting a GIVEAWAY for a darling three strand handmade necklace over here!

Isn't winning stuff swell?
