The Way Back Machine

I don't know about you, but I absolutely love bopping around antique stores! I'm so fascinated by how well made things of the past are and all the fun things of yesteryear that you will come across! Besides who wants to buy the replica when you can hunt down the real thing! :)

The blogging duo of Anna and Agnes took to the streets in Pensacola recently to dig up the best of what the local antiquers had to offer. Check out some of our discoveries below!

There were lots of old car parts up for grabs, unfortunately neither one of us own a cool dive bar, so no where to put this gem.

The inside of a first edition print of "The Secret in the Old Clock," the first book in the Nancy Drew mystery series written by Carolyn Keene. It was so old that it didn't even have the standard Nancy Drew yellow cover! I didn't know they didn't always have that!

This would be me, pretending to look cool.
These are three old school 1940s calendar girl illustrations that I scored at the Time and Time Again Antique Shop on Navy Blvd. I think I'm going to frame them for my powder room (one day when I actually have a bathroom that is cute enough to refer to it as a powder room!).

Thrifty Thursday Finds

Who doesn't love a good thrift store find? My favorites are those that you can actually work into your existing collection of fun things with out feeling too random. What I'm collecting now is a set of beer glasses. I've been specifically popping in every week or two to see if anybody has abandoned any good looking pint glasses while I've been away.

I think these are so fun to find because you can actually use them everyday (after a hot bath in the handy dishwasher of course) and no matter where you get them, they all sort of match. Well, at least they match enough to make me feel like I have an interesting collection as opposed to an island of misfit cups. My most recent finds have already been chilling in the freezer waiting for a good glass of sweet tea or a spring beer on the porch in this great weather!

Is there anything you've been on the lookout for lately? A favorite thrift spot you like to hit? Happy Hunting!

Feeling Cheeky

Despite the fact that winter was practically non-existent in Tennessee this year, it's oh so warm already and I am just bursting with excitement for spring! Spring only means good things: bright colors, cute sandals, spring brews, patio days and summer break is on the way (well maybe not for me, but I hope for you)!

The Volunteer State is in full bloom and I took a sweet stroll around the Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art this weekend to check it out! This place is a nifty little gem over in the Belle Meade area of the always classy Nashvegas. It is actually the estate of the family that started Maxwell House Coffee and their old house (read: huge mansion) is actually an art museum these days.  The folks in the museum aren't too keen on you snapping shots of all their prized possessions, but here are some snaps of the great outdoors for your enjoyment!

In case you're curious, the picture in the top left is the center (yes the center, I couldn't get the whole thing in the shot!) of the Cheekwood Mansion... can I get one of those? And on the bottom left is a remnant of a limestone column that was originally part of the Tennessee State Capital building, which the nerd in me just finds really cool. The original capital structure is actually still standing, but they had to replace the limestone columns some time ago due to the porous nature of the stone. I sure hope your spring is Good to the Last Drop! (Fun Fact: this slogan used by Maxwell House to describe their coffee is said to have been coined by President Teddy Roosevelt while at the house of President Andrew Jackson!)

Be our blog bff? we'll make you a snazzy bracelet!

Do you guys remember the awesomeness of friendship bracelets?

As far as I am concerned they were one of the best DIYs to come out of the 90s, way better than puff paint, bedazzling, and iron on transfers combined!

So when I saw that these two lovely ladies, Leigh, and B, were doing a blogger friendship bracelet swap, I enthusiastically said to myself, yes please! and started scanning their pinterest board for inspiration.

If you would like to join check out Leigh, and B's
blogs for all the details!

They say it's your birthday

They say it's your birthday.....doot n doot n doo doot......... it's my birthday too!

Hi all, it's Agnes here!

Just wanted to embarrass my hubs JR and sing him happy birthday for all to hear!
His birthday was last week, actually, so this post is a little belated, but my birthday is next week, so I split the difference and I'm calling this post's timing perfecto!

JR and I were born only 2 weeks apart which i find pretty snazzy.
So happy belated birthday JR, and happy early birthday to meeeeee!

That's me and Kelsey (anna, around these parts) on the photo in the left (i'm the bebe obvisouly, duh), and that's JR and his momma on the right! A bunch of cutie pies in my humble opinion!

Food Truckin'

Being the lucky ducks that we are, my newest Nashville recruit Lauren and I don't have to work on Friday afternoons. So these are typically reserved for adventures about town while all the rest of our fine friends are still off working for the man.  I'm not sure who was the genius at our office who came up with that plan, but I'm a big fan of theirs.

Most recently we decided to check out Food Truck Friday. These lovely little restaurateurs on wheels seem to be popping up all around town. I'm probably late the party because originally the concept of having to chase your favorite food around town seemed silly to me. Lauren and her big city Atlantian ways was trying her hardest to convince me otherwise, so I was along for the ride.

Lauren's getting excited about the impending food truck tastiness.
We hit up the YWCA, which is where several of the trucks were parked for the afternoon and scoped out the scenery. There were several good options to choose from, a hearty southern style truck, a gourmet mexican truck, and one that specialized in grilled cheese.

I was skeptical at first, but alas, I have been converted to the ways of the food truckers... one bite of my heavenly sandwich from the Grilled Cheeserie and I was sold. Not only did their "My Cousin Vinny" sandwich taste amazing with it's smoked pastrami, oozing cheeese, and special sauce on marbled ryed... they sold bottled soft drinks, which alone was a one way ticket to my heart.

In case you happen to be bopping around Nashville anytime soon, you can locate these delicious folks by following them on twitter @GrlldCheeserie, @yayosmg, and @MereBullesTruck.. I'll definietly be stalking down the Grilled Cheeserie again in the near future and their friends too! What about you, find any good food around your town lately? It's okay if it's staionary! :)

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

  • Having the cashier at publix check my driver's license and then exclaim "WOAH' and proceed to tell me how much i looked like Flo from the Progressive commercials. I then accidentally made a weird face (something i accidentally do a lot), and then there was a nice long pause before I stumbled to get a "err, ...thanks" out of my mouth. Obviously after that point i focused my eyes on the credit card machine so intently one would have only assumed it was giving me tomorrow's winning lottery numbers.Obviously cashier was over talking to me at that point, oh for the love of awkward silence.

(oh btw, i got this from someone's Halloween costume Pinterest Board, oh yeah)

  •  Going to the doctor and having to talk about bodily fluids, not once but twice, telling it first to the nurse and then after waiting for 30 minutes in a small, fluorescent, cold and windowless room and telling the same exact thing to the doctor.
  • Walking Marty McFly (my doggy) and having him take a #2 in someone's yard as they watch from the window of their house. Yes, I am a responsible pet owner and I picked it up. Which brings me to my next awkward point
  • Learning the best way to bag Marty McFly's smelly #2's and not gag and have to hold the bag at least 4 feet away from me at all times, like it's going to suddenly combust at any instant if it gets too close to me.
  • Did I mention my new friend Marty McFly enough yet, he's pretty awesome.

  • All of this pleasant weather we've been having. Oh hello, Mr. Sunshine, so nice to see you again!

  • Someone in my office being extraordinarily awesome and putting this gem on our bulletin board in the break room.

  • This book I'm reading about Dr. Paul Farmer, it's pretty awe inspiring, I highly recommend.

Marty McFly

woof woof!!, so nice to meet you, my name is Marty McFly.

This is our fuzzy new friend we picked up from the pound this weekend. I say if you are thinking about getting an animal, adopting one from a local shelter or animal rescue organization is the way to go.

So in case you aren't familiar with the Marty McFly reference, well then great scott!!! You are missing out on one of the best movies of all time, the 1985 classic, 'Back to the Future'.

I have the greatest urge to watch Back to the Future now, but alas, I only have netflix instant, and it's only available on dvd, and there is no more blockbuster either, :( sad face.

Some of my other favorite 80s movies include: 16 candles, Overboard, Adventures in Babysitting, Any of the Indiana Jones' movies, and Stand by Me.

Do you have a favorite 80s movie you could watch over an over again?
